MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — In Rutherford County, the Mental Health Cooperative has outgrown not only one, but two facilities now.
Tuesday, organization leaders broke ground on a state-of-the-art facility they hope will help them better serve the community’s needs.
This facility offers outpatient care and is located on Gateway Boulevard near Medical Center Parkway. It’s also strategically located with the hope of taking mental health and substance abuse treatment burdens off of local emergency rooms.
The facility will offer walk-in services including behavioral health for anyone over 4 years old and substance use treatment.
Mental Health Cooperative CEO Michelle Schafer said the need for these resources is growing not only in Rutherford County but also in the surrounding counties.
“People with substance use disorder and mental health issues need folks that are specially trained to deal with their needs and then kind of address them immediately,” Schafer said. “And so often we find situations where folks lose housing, they lose family, they lose basically their ability to have the life that you and I want. And so, if we didn’t have all these resources, if we didn’t have folks that were committed to that, we’d have a lot more of that.”
If you or a loved one is looking for mental health or substance use treatment, you can reach out to the Mental Health Cooperative at 615-743-1555. Organization leaders said they will work to get you help, whether or not you have insurance.
